Welcoming Friends

The excited buzz of filming has settled down at school. The Filmbites filmmaking crew have finished filming at Nollamara and Koondoola primary schools. Now the film makers head to the editing suite to piece together all the stories that were told and all the words the students so beautifully spoke.

Welcome was a word that talked about during the Koondoola Primary School interviews. Children were asked to talk about what they would do to welcome new friends to Australia. Some children told how they would cook, clean and make up a bed for their newly arrived friend. Others told of how they would take them to the beach or the movies.

Children also shared their knowledge of what to do if you do not feel welcome at school. They spoke of how teachers were available to assist them and to ensure teasing or bullying was stopped. Teachers who helped students when they did not feel welcome or who were having a hard time at school, were all highly praised by these children.

It seem the Azasu drumming group was seen by all as a great way to feel welcome in their new school and I am sure when you see all the dancing and drumming in the film, you too will feel welcomed by these inspirational children.
